The Power of the Internet and the Power of Communications

6/13/2013 by Susana Schultz

I am always amazed when I do a search for Strictly Spanish and articles I’ve written on the subject of the Spanish language and Spanish translations show up in the most incredible places.

An article that I wrote back in 2007 that has gotten a lot of mileage and a lot of conversation and quoting is The Official Language of the United States and its Impact on the Translation Industry.

No doubt it is a hot topic. It will always be a hot topic. I have been contacted by universities wanting to include it in writings they are publishing and many times excerpts appear in places that never contacted me. I don’t mind. The purpose of writing about what you are passionate and posting it on the Internet is to reach people. I am passionate about the Spanish language and about the United States. If some of my thoughts can make people see a different side of an issue and plant a seed of doubt in their minds about what they thought about a certain subject, then my written word has done more than I intended and I am thankful.

Through the years many of the citations to this article have disappeared, but today, a few still remain and I would like to share them with you. As the debate over immigration, amnesty, and English as the official language of the United States continues appearing on the forefront in our country, I recommend that you read what some people have to say about that, perhaps giving you a different perspective than your own.
